School Author Visits

We are fortunate to be surrounded by many of the very best schools in the State of Georgia, both public and private, and we highly value our local teachers and media specialists.

School Author Visits
We love sending authors and illustrators to Atlanta-area schools! It is a wonderful opportunity to promote literacy, support our local schools, and get kids excited about reading.

We work with authors and with publishers to coordinate visits with local schools at all grade levels. In general, these visits are funded by the publisher at the time of a book's release, in order to build the audience for the author's newest title. There is no charge to schools for these visits, saving schools what would typically be thousands of dollars in author fees. Each visit has a book order minimum of 25 books or more (depending on the author). Schools usually hit this order minimum easily through student pre-orders.

Before committing to an author visit, please confirm the following:

  • Make sure the date of the author visit is clear on the school calendar for the grades in question! Check testing schedules, field trip plans, etc. to make sure there is no conflict.
  • Check with your principal or admin for approval.
  • Make note of the specific requirements for the author visit (minimum order; audience size requirements; a/v needs; etc.) and make sure you can meet them.
  • Read our author visit FAQ page

If you are interested in partnering with us to host a visiting author in your school, please fill out this information form and tell us about your school! Because of the nature of the program, our in-person visits are restricted to metro-Atlanta schools. You can email any questions about our author visit program to our School Event Coordinator at heather@littleshopofstories.com.
