We are glad to be a part of Indies UNITE!, a group of independent bookstores working together to put on a series of hard hitting virtual events that challenge the status quo, question our current standards and leave no curiosity left unexplored. You may have participated last spring in Indies Unite's first programming centered around anti-racism. This year's fall events are dedicated to children’s books fostering productive conversations on U.S. immigration.
Join Indies UNITE! for our first event in the Hear Our Voices, Share Our Stories series on September 18th at 4pm. Picture book creators Yuyi Morales and Areli Morales will be in conversation about the immigrant experience and share their new picture books, Bright Star (by Yuyi!) and Areli is a Dreamer (by Areli!). Purchase of one of these books is required to attend. Both books are also available in Spanish.
There are two ways to register for this event:
Go to our Bookshop link, purchase one or both of these books, and you will be registered for this event. The link to this virtual event will be sent to you the day of the event.
Order books directly from us, and we will register you. If ordering on our website, please use the promo code INDIES UNITE! The link to this virtual event will be sent to you the day of the event.
A big thanks to our friends at Bookshop for partnering on this event!.
From the creator of the New York Times bestseller Dreamers comes a beautiful story about growth, empowerment, and finding one's own voice.Child, you are awake
You are alive
You are a bright star,
Inside our hearts.
From the creator of the New York Times bestseller Dreamers comes a heartbreakingly beautiful story about growth, empowerment, and finding one's own voice, simultaneously released in Spanish.
In the first picture book written by a DACA Dreamer, Areli Morales tells her own powerful and vibrant immigration story.
When Areli was just a baby, her mama and papa moved from Mexico to New York with her brother, Alex, to make a better life for the family--and when she was in kindergarten, they sent for her, too.
En esta edición en español del primer álbum ilustrado escrito por una beneficiaria de DACA -una "dreamer"- Areli Morales narra su poderosa historia como inmigrante.
