Decatur Book Festival 2022

We are thrilled to once again be participating in the Decatur Book Festival! The 2022 Decatur Book Festival will take place on Friday, September 3oth and Saturday, October 1st at the First Baptist Church of Decatur. Below is information about the six events on the Children's / YA Stage. Click here for information about all the stages!

Please arrive early to secure check in and your seats before showtime. Please be aware that Covid precautions dictate that a mask is worn at all times while inside.

EVENT #1  Children's Stage: Saturday, October 1st10 to 10:45 a.m.

Animal Antics! A Picture Book Panel: featuring Carmen Agra Deedy (Wombat Said Come In), Shanda McCloskey (Little Red and the Big Bad Editor), and Michael Sampson (Armadillo Antics); moderated by Shelli R. Johannes (Penny, the Engineering Tail of the Fourth Little Pig).

EVENT #2  Children's Stage: Saturday, October 1st11 to 11:45 a.m.

Celebrating the Power of You: A Black Joy Picture Book Panel: featuring Cathy Ann Johnson (Stand Up!), Frank Morrison (Standing in the Need of Prayer: A Modern Retelling of the Classic Spiritual), and Jorge Redmond (pictured on left) (Black Boy, Black Boy); moderated by Jerry G. White  (Anansi and the Colorful Kente Cloth).

These authors and illustrators will share picture books that inspire, inform and elevate the Black voice..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

EVENT #3  Children's Stage: Saturday, October 1st12 to 12:45 p.m.

Graphic Novels are SUPER! featuring Roshani Chokshi (Aru Shah and the End of Time), John Patrick Green (Investigators: Heist and Seek), and Justin A. Reynolds (Miles Morales: Stranger Tides); moderated by Preeti Chhibber (Spiderman’s Social Dilemma).

EVENT #4  Children's Stage: Saturday, October 1st1:45 to 2:30 p.m.

Mad About Middle Grade featuring Deliah Dawson (Camp Scare), Christyne Morrell (Trex), Mark Oshiro (You Only Live Once, David Bravo), and Jasmine Warga (A Rover’s Story).

Mystery, Sci-fi, Adventure, or Horror: what'll ya enjoy? This panel has something for all readers of mid-grade!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

EVENT #5  YA Stage: Saturday, October 1st, 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Want to Know a Secret? A YA Panel featuring Jim Grimsley (The Dove in the Belly), Chloe Gong (Foul Lady Fortune), and E. Lockhart (A Family of Liars); moderated by Rosemary M. Magee (Family Impromptu).

Whether it is a dark family legacy, a false identity, or the struggle to share one's true self, secrets have the power to destroy everything you know and love ... or save it. These authors will talk about books that will keep you reading until the end.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

EVENT #6  YA Stage: Saturday, October 1st, 4:15 to 5 p.m.

Stand Up, Speak Up: A YA Panel featuring Mayra Cuevas and Marie Marquardt (Does My Body Offend You?), and Laila Sabreen (You Truly Assumed).

Finding your voice is not as easy as it may seem. These authors will talk about their intersectional novels about the power and travails on speaking out.
